Privacy Notice

Last updated: October 2026

1. Who we are

House of Languages is operated by Aarav Agrawal, trading as House of Languages. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice — meaning we decide how and why your data is processed.

2. What data we collect and why

  • Account data — name/nickname and email address, used to create and secure your account (legal basis: performance of our contract with you).
  • Practice content — your answers, recordings, writing and translation submissions, used to provide AI marking and feedback (legal basis: contract performance).
  • Usage data — which modes you use and monthly usage counts, used to enforce plan limits and improve the product (legal basis: contract performance and legitimate interests).
  • Study Room data — room membership, chat messages and quiz scores, used to run collaborative sessions (legal basis: contract performance).
  • Technical data — IP address, device and browser identifiers, used for security and fraud prevention (legal basis: legitimate interests).
  • Support messages — anything you send us when asking for help (legal basis: legitimate interests).

Payment data (card details, billing address) is collected and processed directly by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, and is not stored by us.

3. Who we share data with

  • Service providers and subprocessors that host and operate the service (cloud hosting, database, AI processing and analytics providers);
  • Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of subscriptions, payment processing, tax compliance and invoicing;
  • Professional advisers (such as legal or accounting advisers) where needed;
  • Authorities, where we are required to do so by law.

We do not sell your personal data.

4. International transfers

Some of our service providers process data outside the UK/EEA. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. How long we keep data

We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations and resolve disputes. When data is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to processing, request portability of your data, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. We respond to requests within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.

7. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls and row-level security on our database. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (such as interface language). We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. You can clear cookies and site data at any time through your browser settings, though signing in again will be required.

9. Contact

For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us via the support details shown at checkout or on paddle.net.
